I did a quick poll of friends and family to get recommendations for classic films to watch this Christmas. The benchmark is the cute factor, plenty of action, comic timing, and a celebration of the important things in life - friends, family, and love. Here are our top 10 must-see movie recommendations for the holiday season.
1. It's a Wonderful Life (Frank Capra, 1946)
The moving tale of George Bailey (James Stewart), a small town businessman who decides to commit suicide at Christmas. An angel shows him what will happen if he does and he changes his mind after seeing how his actions will affect the lives of those around him. A classic and heartwarming Christmas movie, and a celebration of what's really important in life.
2. Bad Santa (Terry Zwigoff, 2003)
Billy Bob Thornton plays Willie T Soke, a con artist Santa, who colludes with his elf helper Marcus (Tony Cox) to rob department stores on Christmas eve. Their plan is foiled when Willie meets an eight year-old boy who needs help, and the security man discovers their plot. Lots of naughty antics and dark humour, as an alternative to the usual Christmas candy.
